As a web designer, writer, and programmer, I am very sensitive to IP rights. I work for clients who make me sign all types of gag orders so I don’t talk about or share certain information regarding projects I work on for them. No, I don’t work for NASA or the CIA, but the business world is cut throat and companies will do anything to keep their edge, even if they just have to make themselves feel better by keeping a guy like me from accidentally letting IP go out the door.
What I’m basically saying is that I’m very well aware of online IP rights. Heck, we even make our clients sign forms so they understand that they don’t own our web designs, copy, or code until they pay us the mulah.
So I get pretty pissed off when I hear about someone, or a company, taking IP illegally even if I’m not involved. It’s frustrating. Especially when you do freelance work and don’t have a company with a legal department standing behind you.
It turns out one of my favorite gaming web sites, Tribalwar.com, has stolen the IP of a very talented designer. And each time he contacted them, he got the run around.
If you are concerned about IP rights online, read this story. At least you’ll learn about how some sites operate so you won’t be taken advantage of.
A Virginia law forcing students to open the day with a moment of silence was held constitutional by a federal appeals court today. In a divided ruling, the court said the law is not “religiously coercive.” The court also found no problem with school swimming pools being blessed as baptismal holes and grape juice being on the menu at least once a month.
Digital Theatre reports that Jet Li and Jackie Chan will start together in a movie set to begin filming in 2002. The yet to be titled project hasn’t been written yet so there are no plot details. But really, do you need them? In fact, don’t waste time thinking of a plot. We just want to see Jet and Jackie kicking bootah!
Everyone now and then, I like to pass on a feel good story. And why not? These times upon us can be depressing. A feel good nugget from time to time can cheer us all up. With that in mind, enter Arnold.
A few weeks ago in Minneapolis, a man was holding up a woman near her apartment. The love of her life, Arnold, was none too happy about this. So Arnold did what any brave man would do — he attacked. Arnold latched onto the crook’s leg for all his worth. The crook, rocked by pain, fought to free himself and when he did he ran like hell. Arnold is not a person mind you. Arnold is not even a dog. Arnold is a 300 pound pig. The porker is set to receive an award from Minneapolis Police for contributions to the community.
