Give Jesse Jackson a Job

There I am, reading about the latest news in the death of Northwestern University football player Rashidi Wheeler when it happens. At the tail end of the story, I see this sentence: “However, Wheeler’s family, with the help of Rev. Jesse Jackson, has launched its own investigation.”

What in the world does Jesse Jackson need to get involved in the affairs of a grieving family that’s just trying to figure out what happened to their loved on? I assume that he is getting involved because apparently the trainers didn’t provide adequate medical assistance when Wheeler, a chronic asthmatic, collapsed on the field because they were helping other players. Now, if Jackson tries to insinuate that the trainers were helping white players and that’s why Wheeler, who is black, died, I may have to hunt him down and smack him around with a “Detroit Special” (towel with 4 or 5 padlocks wrapped in it).

I can’t believe that Jesse Jackson could have the time to get involved when there simply must be greater national issues at hand. I get the feeling that now he is grasping at any attention he can get. I can only hope that he is giving this family what they need: comforting and sound advice.

Black Panther Party

That title suprised you I’m sure, but I’m talking more about the comic book and a lot less about the political movement. I recently picked up Marvel’s Black Panther and became highly intrigued at the amazing narrative style of writer Christopher Priest. This is fairly new ground for comic books as most are more linear in their approach. Priest’s intriguing style and great wit are borne to greater heights by penciller Sal Velluto and inker Bob Almond.

If you are at all into comics, I suggest you check out this title. It is ceratinly something special and is even a great book to give people who aren’t necessarily into comics. This comic book moment brought to you by my boring Sunday spent at the office.
