Monopoly is Right

Some dirty bastards right here in my home state have gone and rigged McDonald’s Monopoly game, according to this CNN story. What really irks me about this is that it was some executive who did the rigging. It was probably some guy making at least 6 large who is rigging the winning of big screen TV’s.

If I were going to risk my career and possible jailtime while pulling down 6 large, I sure as well wouldn’t do it for some measly-ass McDonald’s Monopoly prizes. I’d be hitting one of those offshore Cayman Island banks or something. Or better yet, just sit back in my Aeron chair and enjoy the BJ that my secretary was giving me while using a benjamin to light a double corona cuban.

Back to you in the studio, Dan.

The Beauty of Decay

It’s clear that someone really loves the irony of the way nature can slowly reclaim the toughest materials that man can create. Take a look at the stirringly empathic photos of decaying industrial monoliths at this site and realize that this decay is caused simply by neglect and not active demolition.

It may be coincidence that this site came around right after I had finished reading The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. I think it probably is some sort of cosmic balance taking place because the solidity and adaptibility of the friendship found in AoKaC balanced the darkness and disaster of immobility embodied in these photographs. I highly recommend this book to people who love comics and I recommend it even more to those of us who believe friendship (from archives) is one of the most powerful human conditions.

What interest me even more about the book is its take on art and the nature of creation. It tries to get at some definition of art and the human creative spirit that, at times, transcends the nature of its medium (comic books). As a fan of comics and a student of art, I find this discussion and investigation to be absolutely intoxicating. Anyone else feel this way?

Hummmmm…..

There’s so much comedy on television. Does that cause comedy in the streets?

Got Balls?

I guess I havent got the ‘balls’ to come up with any witty remarks.
