I’d marry a good beer. Wouldn’t you?

It’s Friday and since we’ve subjected you all to some posts of a serious nature, I thought I’d attempt to get us back to our jaded satires. The following was emailed to me by a fan of the site and I’m not sure it’s true, although it is funny. Any Utah folks out there email me and let me know if this is legit or not. If it’s legit I’d love to get my hands on a bottle or two.

A Utah-based brewery is introducing Polygamy Porter — in a state where 70 percent of the population does not drink alcohol, according to a BBC dispatch. “Our agenda is to have fun and increase sales of our beer,” explains Greg Schirf of The Wasatch Beers Company. The tag line for Polygamy Porter: “Why Have Just One!”

Yes, it’s controversial. Some media have rejected ads for the new brew. However, Wasatch’s Schirf defends: “The church has gone on record as being against polygamy so we didn’t think it would offend anybody.” He adds: “Because so many polygamists marry underage women, we didn’t want to be at risk for targeting minors.”

Polygamy is against the law in Utah and the Mormon Church banned it 100 years ago, “although it is still practiced by fundamentalist Mormons.” Wasatch previously ran ad campaigns with slogans including: “Utah’s other religion - Wasatch Beers” and “Baptize your taste buds.”
