Maybe it's me, but shouldn't that boat not be going right at the hurricane?

Where's that picture from? It's a neat pic. Yea the direction of the ship was kinda worrying me too. The last picture of the oil tanker before it was swallowed by the hurricane. these brave souls gave their life so we could see this wonderfull picture

Very cool pic, but it is not from Isabel. In fact, it is an image taken of TS Graham. I work at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and was teased by the scientists for falling for this one.

Whatever it is, it's still a cool picture. Enjoy it for its beauty of nature, which is why I posted it to begin with.

Yes... it is a beautiful image. However, there is NO WAY that picture shows a Hurricane or a Cyclone or any other "severe" storm activity.
The picture shows a localised rain shower somewhere at sea.
The ocean, for a start, is as flat as a shit-carter's hat. There is no wind at all... the clouds on the horizon are undisturbed by storm activity. It looks like a beautiful afternoon to be at sea.
The ship is heading in the right direction. (assuming the captain hasn't drank his portion of Rum already.)

I think we all now have the same question: What the hell is a shit-carter's hat?

LOL... I'm sorry. I should've realised.

A "Shit-Carters Hat" is... or rather was... a hat worn by the guys who used to go around the town collecting people's full shit tins from their outhouses in the days before sewerage and septic. They were a heavy, wide and flat brimmed hat.

Once or twice a week or when the tins were full, these poor buggers would run into people's yard with an empty tin, go to the little door located at the rear of the outhouse, pull out the full tin, slip in the empty tin and then hoist the full one up onto their heads. The flatness of the hats helped to keep the tin from slipping off their heads and then tipping all over the place. They'd then run like mad to the truck and throw the tin aboard.

The term "shit-carters hat" is an Australian one... of course. :)

I think the brits had a more polite name for these guys... they called them "Dustmen" and they wore a "Dustman's Hat". I'm fairly sure the name refered to shit carting and not rubbish carting.
