Star Wars Episode III Review

Anthony Lane of The New Yorker absolutely slams Episode III.

A choice nugget:

The general opinion of “Revenge of the Sith” seems to be that it marks a distinct improvement on the last two episodes, “The Phantom Menace” and “Attack of the Clones.” True, but only in the same way that dying from natural causes is preferable to crucifixion.

I think I’ll wait for the DVD or just download it sometime next week.

P.S. I finally saw Hitchhiker’s Guide. It’s awful…simply terrible. Avoid at all costs.

I tend to agree with the EPIII review, though I blame most of it on Lucas. It looked great but the writing and acting had as much depth as a bottlecap.

I think “The Empire Strikes Back’ is the best of the six.

personally, i enjoyed RoTS. It wasn’t quite up to par w/ the original trilogy but I think it qualified as a star wars none the less.

Lucas should have done what he did with Empire and RotJ… he hired a screen writer.

Lucas had not made a movie in 20 years. Ending that drought with these three movies is like jumping in the deep end of the pool. He movie making skills were weak at best.

He should have made some other movie first, to bone up his skills. He should have hired a screen writer to help him, had some g33k fact checkers to make sure he wasn’t conflicting the original story… then made the movies.
