Sex, Lies and Aruba

Over the past week, the must-read story the media is hooked on is the missing teen in Aruba.

Alabama teen Natalee Holloway went missing on May 30 in Aruba when her senior class was there on a trip.

I have noticed a few interesting thing about this case that no one seems to be reporting, and I will gladly pass to you in this very post.

Who’s Guilty
If you look at who was arrested and how, you can determine who is guilty very quickly. Last week, two former security guards were arrested and taken into custody. When they were arrested, they walked calmly to the police cars despite all the media hounds looking on. They casually got in the police cars and seemed to be fully cooperating. I figure they were innocent. Why? I’ll tell you in a second.

Yesterday police arrested three more “person’s of interest.” When they were escorted out, they had coats over their heads and were leaning over so no one could see their faces.

Based on that, you can tell who has something to hide and who is probably guilty.

Simply, one group acted like criminals. If I was a trial lawyer in this case, I’d simply show that video, then rest the case. Hey, if it walks like a duck…

Second, the media seems to be overlooking a late night beach gang bang. Ms. Holloway was at a bar until 1:30 AM local time. At which point she left. She met the three men mentioned above, and the foursome when to a nearby beach first, then she allegedly went back to her hotel.

A few questions: did the chaperone’s know she was at a bar that late, or did they just not care? If they knew, why did she have to rely on strangers to give her a ride back? If her hotel was close enough to walk back to her hotel, then she must have gotten into the car willingly. I’d expect three men grabbing a girl in front of a night club and stuffing her into a car would draw attention.

Logic would tell you not to get in a car with three strangers to bum a ride.

I’m not trying to pin this on the teen, or say that in any way she is responsible for whatever happened to her. I’m blaming the chaperones.

Why would they let high school seniors go to a bar and stay there until 1:30 AM? If they did allow it, why did they at least ensure they had transportation back to the hotel? If a group of seniors was allowed to go to the bar, why did they go alone? It defeats the purpose of a chaperone completely.

How does the media choose what missing person–and there are loads– is important enough to cover?

From the link above:
One of three young suspects arrested Thursday in the investigation into the disappearance of an Alabama teenager has confessed to her murder, a senior police official said late Friday.

The suspect has agreed to lead police to the body of 18-year-old Natalee Holloway, the police official said.

Police did not say which of the three teenagers confessed.

The three have been identified as brothers Satish Kalpoe, 18, and Depak Kalpoe, 21, and their friend, 17-year-old Joran Van Der Sloot, the son of a judge.

Again, why was she allowed to bar hop, visit casino’s and stay out till 2AM? The chaperones they took along with with them must have summer jobs as referees for professional wrestling.

“Again, why was she allowed to bar hop, visit casino’s and stay out till 2AM?” Maybe the chaperones were busy drinking cheap tequila and smoking spices they thought were weed.

Seriously, though, I suspect the chaperones may have been a little less inclined to watch the students closely since they were all high school graduates who’d likely all reached the age of consent. That being said, you’d think that she’d have one or two friends that would stick with her and never allow her to stay out alone.

I live in Aruba part of the year.
The bar that she was in is called ‘Carlos ‘n Charlies. This bar is in Oranjestad-the capitol (main) town.
The holiday in where she was staying is about a 15-20 min ride by car.
Not possible to walk. The holiday inn is at Palm beach.
The lighthouse is about a 7 min. drive from further north.
I have worked in that area so I know it very well. There is not much to do there and Carlos ‘n Charlies is THE nightspot for that agegroup. all the 18 year old women go there when they visit Aruba.
Strangely enough, one of the 2 suriname brothers used to work in an internet cafe that everybody visits, including me. A skinny guy. He was always polite, whatever that means.
If you need more info about the surroundings, let me know.
