Let’s Talk About Jesus

Is there anything more awkward than when someone walks up to you and says, “I’d like to talk to you about Jesus”?

The problem with this question is two-fold:

1. It implies the person being asked the question is a heathen. I recall something about “thou shall not judge” or something like that.

2. It implies that they could be the shining example of good living in their religion, yet it’s still not good enough because it’s not Christianity.

This happened to me once, then it turned into some sort of homosexual/anonymous sex come-on. That was a bizarre day that made me want to hate mankind…more.

I don’t know that it’s any worse than the morons who hung out in the technology section of the local bookstore and offered me “business opportunities using the social networking magic of the internet.” It was then that I hoped man’s time on this planet was short.

You know, aside from the random tract handed to me in a parking lot, or when I’m in my car at a stop light I haven’t had this problem EXCEPT when I was at school and work.

At school it was expected, I guess, because it was a Christian school. But work is what really surprised me. I was working in the insurance department at a hospitals home health division and it was just freaky all the religion they tried to interject in the everyday work place. If someone was sick or having a rough time they would get pray for them before meetings. Praying before Friday bring a dish buffets. One time I was working and someone actually came and asked if I wanted to stop working to go in the break room and pray with them for a coworker having a baby! They were all big time bible thumpers.

I am used to being perceived as a heathen. My parents do that very well. But dealing with it in the workplace was just ridiculous. The truth is, I am more agnostic than anything else. I don’t care for organized religion, but I do believe in a higher power. I have thought about joining the Unitarian church mostly because there it isn’t what you believe, but mostly that you are tolerant of all beliefs.

Anyway, all of this tripe was to say that I agree.
