I prefer raiding corporate events for meetings I wasnt invited to. We are fortunate enough to sit right above one of the largest meeting rooms so we smell all the food as its being setup. Sometimes we are able to sneak in before the event starts or sometimes we will go in right after everyone else starts eating. As long as we have our badge and act like we need to be there, no one ever bothers us. I'd say that I get free meals and cookies at work at least three times a week. Its one of those hidden benefits they dont tell you about when you get hired. I hear you about the cake though.... when we raid the smaller gatherings with less food, we get dirty looks. Not the same as asking about a birthday, but you do get a weird look when stuffing your mouth and asking a stranger what the event is for. :-)
